About Dan Staples

My personal running passion began when I was 10 or 11 years old when my dad would take me along with him to run 5Ks —and it continues to this day!

During high school at Parkway West, I ran Cross Country. It was a great experience that I still remember fondly. For the next decade and a half, running continued to be my favorite hobby; I raced in 5Ks and 10Ks.

I've been the Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach & Track Distance at Timberland High School for 9 years, training athletes from the 800 Meters to the 5K.  I've coached athletes to both team and individual successes, including several State Medalists, and two Runner-Up Class 5 State individual finishes in Cross Country (2020), and Track-3200M (2022).

My experiences as a coach motivated me to take my running passion to the next level and start training — with the help of many other awesome runners and coaches — at a higher level, increasing my commitment level to train for both Half and Full Marathons.

With the support of my fellow runners & coaches over the years, I've been able to accomplish things in running that I would have not thought possible several years ago.  I’ve qualified for the Boston Marathon and finished near the top of my age group in large field Full/Half Marathons and other races.  I have greater ambitions as a both runner and a coach, and I am excited to see what the future holds!
As a teacher, coach, athlete, husband and father, I feel I have a good understanding of how to balance the many responsibilities of life along with pursuing a passion for running, reaching personal goals, and helping others reach theirs.
