About Julia Griffey
Julia Griffey is a former college soccer player who found a true passion for running after her soccer career ended. Julia played 4 years of college soccer at the University of Southern Indiana, then pursued her MBA while running one year of cross country and track for the University of Southern Indiana. In that year, she became a 4-time All American in Cross Country, Indoor 5k, Outdoor 5k, and Outdoor 10k.
After college, Julia’s passion for running just continued to grow as she met a group of runners in St. Louis, where she trained under the guidance of Jason Holroyd from 2016 – 2020. In those 4 years, she competed in many races, from 5ks to Marathons, eventually finding her true love in the marathon. Julia won first place female at the Twin Cities Marathon in 2019 and went on to place 10th at the 2020 Marathon Olympic Trials.
In the Summer of 2020, Julia took a big leap in her running career and joined Hoka NAZ Elite in Flagstaff, AZ. That Fall, Julia and her husband packed up their house and two dogs, and moved to Flagstaff to train with NAZ Elite in the altitude. She learned so much from training with elite-level athletes on a daily basis and met a lot of amazing people in the running community.
In early 2023, Julia made the hard decision to leave the team and come back down to sea level, where she currently lives and trains in Phoenix, AZ. In December of 2022, Julia qualified for the 2024 Olympic Trials Marathon, which will be held in February 2024.
Julia’s PRs include a 4:38 mile, a 1:11 Half Marathon, and a 2:29 Marathon, among others.
“This year I have truly found a passion in wanting to help other people excel in their running and personal life,” shares Julia. “I believe running can bring so many positives to a person’s life, and I want to share that experience with others. I am a certified Level 1 RRCA Coach. I am excited to be with Spewak Training to learn from the amazing other coaches while also helping clients to find their own love of running.”
