Do you want to be successful when races resume?
Are you finding it tougher to get out the door since the weather shifted? Don’t beat yourself up if you feel fatigued or unmotivated to train. This is a normal thing to go through and the best runners in the world experience it as well. Some of my athletes are feeling this way after the incredible fall our team put together. We celebrated our 5th birthday by watching many of our athletes hit PRs at several different distances. After any big race, I ask our team to shut down and reset. As a coach, I am always thinking about the big picture. I really believe that it’s just as important to emphasize recovery as it is to emphasize hard training. To do the hard training, you need the recovery. And you earn the recovery by doing the hard training. If you are trained correctly, you will have a balance of both worlds 365 days of the year. It’s no secret that training through a pandemic has been difficult. Our team has stepped up and made the best of this virtual world but I would be lying if I said it’s an easy sell to convince runners of another potential 6 months of time trials. With a vaccine on the horizon, there is lots of hope for “normal” racing to resume in the fall of 2021. However, for now, we have to find ways to stay motivated while enjoying the sport in the process. This winter Spewak Training is hosting a Winter Series for our team to compete in. Really only two of the events are time trials and the rest are fun running activities to keep runners motivated. We must find creative ways to stay consistent because real life racing will return VERY soon. When it does, those who have stayed consistent and found opportunities to excel their fitness this past year, will be at a HUGE advantage. With the weather getting colder and the running hours becoming darker, it’s time for you to make a decision on the type of runner you want to be in 2021. There will be several opportunities when races do resume and you will want to be the one who said they did everything in their power to be ready for them. Treat your future self to many successful results by continuing to build on your hard work of these last 6 months this winter and beyond. Good luck!
