It's normal if you are feeling unmotivated right now!

As you all know, I am a super positive person. However, when it gets to the months of February and March, it’s easy for us all to feel depleted, sad, and downright unmotivated to train. Cloudy skies and chilly weather can take a toll on any runner. Here is the silver lining, getting miles in during this time of the year is why you will be ten times stronger come race day.  Half the battle of training is staying consistent and positive in the process. When the weather is crummy and the roads are dark, it’s easier to choose sleeping in a warm bed over pounding the pavement. However, you will never regret a run. Once you get out there, if layered appropriately you will feel much much better. So how do you trick yourself out the door? Make plans to run with a group or a friend. Having company makes the run more fun as well as holding you accountable to your miles. Schedule your runs on your calendar like you would with a meeting for work. And make sure you are giving yourself the benefit of the doubt. Doing something is always better than nothing. On the days you feel like quitting, just remember how you will want to feel crossing the finish line of your goal race this spring.  If training was easy everyone would do it. We saw Boston in 2018 and the more recent Olympic Trials in Atlanta. You are not guaranteed perfect weather for race day. Take pride in knowing that you are training to be prepared for anything come race day. A lot of runners who under-performed on race day had skipped the hard days. Those who simply get out the door have a much better shot at being rewarded with great races in good or bad weather. Embrace the opportunity and don’t stop believing!  *Spewak Training coaches are accepting new clients.
